In accordance with the ordinance (update) of the Rector of the University of Zielona Góra No. 157 dated October 1, 2020, based on Article 23, Sections 1 and 2 of the Act of July 20, 2018, Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1668, as amended) and § 47, Sections 1 and 2 of the Statute of the University of Zielona Góra, the Astronomy Discipline Council was established.
The tasks of the Council include the execution of statutory competencies, particularly encompassing:
- conducting proceedings before the Council for awarding the academic degree of Doctor in the discipline of astronomy within the scope of the University's granted powers,
- conducting nostrification proceedings concerning the academic degree of Doctor,
- performing activities related to education within the doctoral school, primarily overseeing the substantive quality of education, including granting approval for acting as a supervisor and appointing members of committees conducting periodic evaluations of doctoral candidates,
- defining development directions, plans within the discipline, including the formulation of research strategies,
taking initiatives regarding personnel policies (i.e., recruitment, employment, evaluation, promotion) of research and research-teaching staff,
- allocating financial resources within the discipline for conducting research by staff and doctoral candidates.
